I Don’t Get Mad At You For Having A Cold…Mental Illness Isn’t Your Fault Either…

I don’t understand the world we live in,

Why people get put down and feel bad,

Like a mental illness is a choice or a sin,

And like others have the right to get mad,

I don’t understand the overly annoyed,

who put down those that are mentally ill,

or the impatient judgemental tones employed,

and the horrible stigma that exists still.

If the person had chest pain from a heart attack,

Family and friends would care for them  lovingly,

And the ill would get no angry flack,

like when their illness is based mentally,

It is not a choice to have a mental disease,

The mentally ill spend most of their life,

In lonely torture making silent pleas,

That they wouldn’t have this mental strife,

A person wouldn’t feel so alone and lost,

Those with mental illness could rise above

A happy life wouldn’t be the cost,

If others would have patience and love

I find solace in this poem. Sometimes you need a reminder that it’s not your fault, and thank you for reminding me.

So glad this could give you some comfort. It is not a choice and I hope one and all will someday realize that. There are those who understand. :)Thank you for taking the time to read it and to comment 🙂
